B Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced (Bank 1)
Description
Engine started and driven at an engine speed of more than 400rpm; and the DME detected the camshaft timing exceeded the maximum calibrated advance value, or the camshaft remained in an advanced position during the CCM test. The valve timing did not change from the current valve timing or it remained fixed during the testing. The VANOS is in the end position. Note: The camshaft adjustment is load- and RPM dependant. The electrical camshaft adjustment valve 1 switches oil pressure onto camshaft adjuster (mechanical adjustment mechanism), which adjusts the camshaft.
Cause and Solution
Fuel pump has failed CPS circuit is open, shorted to ground or shorted to power Battery voltage below 11.5 volts Position actuator circuit may short to B+ or Ground Camshaft timing improperly set, or continuous oil flow to the VCT piston chamber Camshaft advance mechanism (the VCT unit) is sticking or binding mechanically VCT solenoid valve is stuck in open position
