DTC P0722 Acura

Problem in Output Shaft (Countershaft) Speed Sensor Circuit (No Signal Input)

Problem in Output Shaft (Countershaft) Speed Sensor Circuit (No Signal Input)

Description

If pulse dropouts occur with the output shaft (countershaft) rotating, the PCM detects a malfunction that may be caused by an open, a temporary open, or a short to ground. When the vehicle speed measured by the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor is 13 mph (20 km h) or more, the vehicle speed measured by the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor is 1 mph (2 km h) or less for at least 10 seconds. NOTE: This code is caused by an electrical circuit problem and cannot be caused by a mechanical problem in the transmission.

Cause and Solution

Faulty or improperly installed output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor
Loose or poor connections at the PCM and output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connectors
Open in the wires between PCM connector terminals and ground or poor ground
Open or Short in the wire between PCM connector terminal and the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector
PCM needs to be updated with the latest software
